Either way it gives you the
flexibility to work the days and the hours you want to work;
particularly if you have a family. Some people are more comfortable
working for wages so you may choose to work for a Beauty Salon or
Health Club or even a retail store. The choice is yours.
Can I buy product at a discounted price while
I'm studying?
Yes you can. Obviously you
will need product to carry out the practical part of the course so
we have products you can purchase at wholesale prices for some units
and will assist in advising where else to go.
Can I do one or more separate modules rather
than the whole course?
Yes you can. Some
people may choose to do only one module. For example let’s
say they are already a qualified masseuse and want to offer
waxing as a service to their clients. They can
enroll just to do waxing as a "short course" and after completion of
the course and their assessment they would get a certificate in
waxing.
How do the external studies courses
work?
The Beauty Specialist Diploma
course is made up of a number of units, such as waxing, tinting,
manicure, pedicure, facials, & massage. We have an easy to
follow training video / DVD for each unit; one of which is sent to
you together with an assignment and relevant notes where applicable.
The video is returned to us after three weeks. You
follow the instruction on the video / DVD to get the practical,
hands-on skills and practice the techniques shown on your family and
friends until you feel comfortable doing the treatment. Remember
that you have the video / DVD for three weeks to refer back to as
many times as you like to perfect your technique.
You read the relevant pages from your text book to get
the answers for the assignment - this is called "open book"
learning. Once you have completed the assignment it is returned to
us for checking and comment. If there is another assignment relevant
to that unit we would forward that to you.
We suggest you keep all the marked assignment papers
for future reference. On completion of the assignments relevant to
that unit we suggest you do the written assessment while everything
is fresh in your mind. This is done by you nominating a suitable
person in your town; it may be a School , Library, Policeman, JP,
Marriage Celebrant, Nursing Sister, Fireman, Manager etc.
We send the question paper to them and they sit with
you while you complete the paper. They mail it back to us for
checking and we let you know how you went. You will be assisted as
to what questions to learn for the written assessment. You then move
on to the next unit, and we follow the same format listed above.
With the format shown above you can progress
through the course at your own pace; a pace which suits you, a pace
which allows you to work around any commitments you have, such as
children, or sport or work. With the practical side you can video
your work and send it to the college for marking, and then
I can see how you are going and advise if there are areas you need
to work on.
What happens if I have problems with a
particular subject?
If you find you are
having trouble grasping a particular subject please remember that
you are only as far away as a quick email or a phone call to your
tutor who is a trained Beautician and Lecturer. sometimes just
getting the answer to a simple question will make everything drop
into place.
