EXTERNAL STUDIES COURSES

How can I get a job when I finish the course?
Once you have had your practical assessment and completed the course you have the choice of working for yourself or working as an employee. Some choose to work for themselves either by setting up a Beauty Room at home or renting space in an existing Hairdresser or an Acrylic Nail Salon while others may choose to go "mobile" and take their skills into their clients' home.

Either way it gives you the flexibility to work the days and the hours you want to work; particularly if you have a family. Some people are more comfortable working for wages so you may choose to work for a Beauty Salon or Health Club or even a retail store. The choice is yours.

Can I pay the course off?
Yes you can. With our convenient "pay while you learn" system you can pay for the course while you study. All we need is a deposit and then a regular monthly payment through either a direct transfer from your Bank, credit card, cheque or money order once a month. It's that easy!

Can I stop and restart the course?
Yes you can. Once the course has been paid in full it can be deferred for up to two years.

Can I buy product at a discounted price while I'm studying?
Yes you can. Obviously you will need product to carry out the practical part of the course so we have products you can purchase at wholesale prices for most units and will assist in advising where else to go.

Can I do one or more separate modules rather than the whole course?
Yes you can. Some people may choose to do only one module. For example let’s say they are already a qualified masseuse and want to offer waxing as a service to their clients. They can enroll just to do waxing as a "short course" and after completion of the course and their assessment they would get a certificate in waxing.

How do the external studies courses work?
The Beauty Specialist Diploma course is made up of a number of units, such as waxing, tinting, manicure, pedicure, facials, & massage. We have an easy to follow training DVD for each unit; one of which is sent to you together with an assignment and relevant notes where applicable.

The DVD is yours to keep.  You follow the instruction on the DVD to get the practical, hands-on skills and practice the techniques shown on your family and friends until you feel comfortable doing the treatment. Remember that you have the DVD to refer back to as many times as you like to perfect your technique.

You read the relevant pages from your text book to get the answers for the assignment - this is called "open book" learning. Once you have completed the assignment, it is returned to us for checking and comment. If there is another assignment relevant to that unit we will forward that to you.

We suggest you keep all the marked assignment papers for future reference. On completion of the assignments relevant to that unit we suggest you do the written assessment while everything is fresh in your mind. This is done by you nominating a suitable person in your town; it may be a School , Library, Policeman, JP, Marriage Celebrant, Nursing Sister, Fireman, Manager etc.

We send the question paper to them and they supervise while you complete the paper. They mail it back to us for checking and we let you know how you went. You will be assisted as to what questions to learn for the written assessment. You then move on to the next unit, and we follow the same format listed above.

With the format shown above, you can progress through the course at your own pace; a pace which suits you, a pace which allows you to work around any commitments you have, such as children, or sport or work. With the practical side you can video your work and send it to the college for marking, and then we can see how you are going and advise if there are areas you need to work on.

What happens if I have problems with a particular subject?
If you find you are having trouble grasping a particular subject, please remember that you are only as far away as a quick email or a phone call to your tutor who is a trained Beauty Therapist and Lecturer. Sometimes just getting the answer to a simple question will make everything fall into place.
